Personal Statement

I was born on a raft on the Mississippi River, floating in naïve and adventurous abandon down that broad, brown expanse with Huck and Jim, two companions who taught me much about honor and friendship. I watched with Scout and Jem and Dill as Atticus tried to defend Tom Robinson against racism so deeply ingrained it made my soul ache.
