Personal Statement

Most of my evenings end with a rotary paper cutter, a pile of linen cardstock, and a cup of lukewarm black coffee. I build physical prototypes for small card games out of my garage workshop in Texas. I cut chipboard tiles, sleeve proxy cards with old Magic commons, and scribble rule changes directly on index cards between play sessions. Protospiel South has been my go-to sanity check each year. It is where you find out within ten minutes if your clever scoring mechanic is actually fun or just confusing to four strangers sitting around a folding table.

When a game finally holds together after twenty iterations, I usually put together a basic site so local playtesters can grab the print-and-play PDF or preorder a small batch. The game design part is fun, but the web checkout side is always full of practical headaches. Setting up a payment form means you have to test every single failure point before taking people's money. You cannot just swipe your own bank card fifty times during debugging.

To check if the cart logic handles typos, missing digits, or different card brands, you need to generate credit card numbers that pass standard format math without touching real money. I run sandbox tests for that exact reason; generating test credit card numbers makes it simple to verify that the checkout form responds properly, triggers the right error messages, and does not crash midway. It is just basic maintenance so players can get their game files without technical hiccups.

I am bringing two unfinished deck prototypes to this weekend's tables—a fast drafting game about railway logistics and a cooperative dice-roller. If you enjoy breaking card combos, stress-testing rule sheets, or need an extra set of hands to test your own prototype, come pull up a chair.
