Are you attending Psotospiel 2010? Tell us who you are and what you plan to share with us.enNew games?
http://protospielsouth.com/node/74

So, anyone working on new game ideas since PSS2010? With all the wonderful and creative games I saw at the Con, I'm sure there are a number of you who have been hard at work on new ideas after so inspiring a convention. I know that I was already coming up with new games on the ride home! Plus, I've been making good headway with some revisions. I'm back to the drawing board on "Cults Of Arkham", I'm working more on revising "Into The Ruins" (previously "Ruins Of Xengoth") and I've made "For Bolder Glory" even more fun than it already was!

As far as new games, I've been working on an expandable fantasy card game (so far titled "You And What Army?), a Lovecraft-themed quick-play card game ("Cth'lhu"), a fantasy-horror themed boardgame about warring necromancers ("Gravestone", which was actually an older idea I'm delving back into to finally get it to prototype stage), a sci-fi survival-horror themed boardgame (untitled yet), and I'm playing with some concepts for an Old West-themed boardgame (also untitled).

So what are you guys out there making? Any new and fun ideas that you just can't stop working on? The river of creativity stops its flow for no one's schedule, after all.

P.S. Anyone get published from showing their work at the Con?

http://protospielsouth.com/node/51

Just saw this convention on SJG's Twitter feed. Bummed I didn't know of it earlier! I would have been more active getting it going.

I'm going to print up some copies of our quickstart for Early Dark, a low-fantasy RPG set outside the typical Eurocentric-Medieval. It uses a unique d10 system, and playtesters could take home copies.

If I can get the quickstart for our second game together in time, I'll bring Centennial Gothic. It is an RPG that uses playing cards and poker chips, set in a Horror Weird West setting of sorts.

Can't wait to see you all! Pretty sure we're heading up to Ann Arbor for the Protospiel2010 as well. It is my 11-year (don't ask) high school reunion, and I went to school just 20 minutes from "A2." It'd be nice to make some friends down here before some of us do the big haul! I might have a place for someone to stay in Michigan as well (depending on how many guests my family will have at the time).

... is the card game I'm bringing to PSS. Up to six players start with $100M and compete to be the first to increase their fortune to $1B by buying, running, and dismantling companies.

http://protospielsouth.com/node/46

I'm excited to be testing the working prototype of "Inevitable," our sprawling dystopian / satirical board game. It's a longish game-- recent tests have run around three hours --but I hope people will be open to giving it a try. Protospiel South will mark one of the "final rounds" of playtesting, as the game is likely to head to the printers in July.

(We got some nice press on the game a few weeks back at science fiction fan site io9, if anyone's interested: http://io9.com/5530250/inevitable-the-board-game-of-insane-supercomputers-zombies-and-sociopolitical-satire )

I'll also be bringing a prototype of "Horde Rising," a zombie-apocalypse card game.

There's a third game brewing in my head, about an eclectic group of characters at a party, called "Thirty Thieves." I'd love to have a crudely hashed-out prototype ready to go for Protospiel, but time draws near and I might not make it.

http://protospielsouth.com/node/44

Right now we only have one card game prototyped. While adult-themed and risque, Strip Club Manager isn't R-Rated. More like a PG-17 ;) Two to six players vie to have Dancers collect the most cash from their Patrons over a given time period. Players will attempt to use Enhance cards to boost Patron/Dancer payouts while avoiding Sabotage cards from their rivals. We hope it will prove to be a fast, fun, and cutthroat experience.

I'm hoping my partner and I will find some time before the convention to make the prototype for our Get Out of Jail card game.

http://protospielsouth.com/node/42

I've got one that will definitely be there:

'Go Wild!' is a deck of cards that's an adjunct to playing Go, much like SJG's Knightmare Chess is an adjunct to playing Chess.

And two others that may or may not make it:

'Istanbul' is a building/auction game where you try and expand and maintain your antiquities through the crashing waves of history.

'Prime Movers' is a fast abstract card game.

I've got the initial prototype Go Wild! decks done and printed (via thegamecrafter.com); the others are still much more up-in-the-air.

Relatedly, how many copies of a prototype are people bringing?

http://protospielsouth.com/node/41

I should have 2-5 games ready for the con. I apologize now that I'm not going to have spiffy art or pieces.

Tentatively we have,

Animated Zombies in Fundieland - You send your demonic zombie minions against Christian fundamentalist.

Witch's Brew - Cooperative/competitive card game where you create potions.

Elderly Arms: Retirement Center for Aging Gods - A bingo/board/card game where you as a retired god are trying to get bingo by going on event trips.

Delvers - A realtime dungeon building game

Possibly more or less, I'll have to see how the month goes.

http://protospielsouth.com/node/39

I somehow feel unworthy, becuase everyone else has more than a handfull of games to be tested.

The game I am bring is Outrider. It's a cars with guns-themed light war/minis game that I could compare to Wings of War and Robo Rally. It generally plays in an hour w/4 people, but I think it could scale to 6 easily and 8 with a little patience.

basically, each player takes a vehicle card (from 8 different builds) all with different characteristics. Using four dice, each player further customizes (or balances) their vehicle - the dice represetning the engine, driver, armor and weaponry of the vehicle. After that it's time to let the carnage commence!

At present it's a print and play, unsing 2.5x3.5 cards in sleeves, a fair amount of .5x.5 tokens and range ruler and a 3x5 'dashboard' ... oh and hot wheels!

I'm looking forward to getting it playtested by a variety of players.

http://protospielsouth.com/node/38

Hi, guys and gals! First, let me say just how excited I am to have a board game convention so close to home! I have big hopes for Protospiel South, and can't wait to arrive for surely what will be one of the best weekends of 2010!

Ok, so I've got some board games for you guys to play. Let me tell you a little bit about them:

#1: For Bolder Glory - Fantasy-based role-playing style board game, but with simple, traditional board game mechanics used in crafty ways to help build a party of Allies and Followers, and an assortment of Weapons, Armor, Shields, Mounts and Items, as well as learning powerful Spells. "There is a monster terrorizing the people of a countryside, and it's up to a hero to do something about it. Who will slay the dread beast? Maybe it will be you... if you are bold enough!"
2 to 8 players, versus-style and cooperative modes of play, 1 to 3 hours
Also includes: Holy War, Village, Sea, Desert and Mountain expansion sets I've created (We'll probably play a few games with just the base set, and then some fully expanded games.)

#2: Cults of Arkham - Strategy-based role-playing style board game, based solely on and my personal tribute to the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, mainly revolving around completing Prophecies by obtaining specific cards to bring about the return of the Old Ones and the end of the world. "Your darkest dreams have led you to the Miskatonic Valley. You must go and build up a cult by recruiting Cultists, Madmen and Monsters to your cause, while fighting and capturing Townsfolk to perform the Rituals and Rites you learn from your Tomes, all to fulfill the ancient Prophecies and bring about the end of the world. But you are not alone, for others have had the dreams too. Who will call on the Old Ones first?"
2 to 8 players, 1 to 2 hours
Also includes: Forbidden Lore expansion, Miskatonic Expedition expansion, and Dreamlands expansion (Again, we'll probably play a few base games, then the rest fully expanded.)

#3: Reeferton Dealers - Strategy-based resource management style board game, based around the idea of selling weed and keeping customers. "You are a pot dealer, new to Reeferton, and you must manage your Stash and your Cash to keep your Customers happy so they don't leave you, meanwhile you must find more sources to buy from while exploring the town of Reeferton. But don't get caught by Officer Buzzkill!"
2 to 8 players, 1 to 2 hours

#4: Jesus! The Boardgame - 'Move along the path' style game, based around gaining Divinity and Followers, with Ministry cards you can play on yourself or others, and Events you must face. "Each player is a prophet, claiming to be the Son of God, but who will truly end up the Messiah? Make your way along your path, facing the trials of the life of Jesus, trying to ascend to Heaven first to be named the true Son of God." Note: This game is NOT intended to be sacrilegious in any way, nor is it intended to poke fun at anyone's faith.
2 to 8 players, 30 minutes to 1-1/2 hours

#5: Ruins of Xengoth - 'Move along the chosen path' style game, based around exploring areas, avoiding Traps and finding Treasure to help you reach the Idol Chamber, where you must choose the correct Idol of Xengoth to beat the others. Thematic elements make this game's feel like a cross between Pitfall, Allen Quartermain, and Indiana Jones.
2 to 6 players, 30 minutes to 1 hour

I can't wait to play these games with you all, and I really look forward to seeing and playing your games as well! I'm doing everything I can to make it all three days! 'Til then, keep them games coming!

Best Regards,
http://protospielsouth.com/node/36

Hi,

for Protospiel I want to find play testers for my game called Brigands. Some details on Brigands are on my blog at http://roboard.wordpress.com/2010/03/05/brigands-the-concept/. However, while I don't mind you reading the blog (doh!) I would like some testers to also start at zero, i.e., not read the blog but work with the printed instructions I bring to Protospiel (so that the official rules are tested too).

That said, I am also glad to play other's prototypes and give feedback.

See y'all,
